This ice cream is bananas

Work is bananas this week. Like giving me premature grey hairs bananas. I didn't have time to do a nursery post, so instead here is a recipe made of....

BANANAS!

You know when your bananas start to look like this?

Yuck. I don't ever want to eat them when they look this brown. So you know what I do so they don't go to waste?  I cut them up in slices and freeze them. Then when I am craving something sweet, I grab my blender and make banana ice cream.

It's not ice cream that tastes like bananas. It's bananas blended to the consistency of soft serve ice cream.

It's fricking delish and healthy too. Here is how you make it:

Grab your frozen bananas. (I normally store 2 average size bananas a bag.) Grab a liquid that will compliment the overall flavor you want - milk, soy milk or even juice. Then grab your extras - other fruit, cocoa powder, vanilla extract etc. I grabbed skim milk and cocoa powder to make chocolate ice cream, but we've also done strawberries with orange juice.

Toss the bananas in the blender with the liquid and blend on low. Here is the trick - it will seem super difficult at first because the consistency is so thick. If your blender gets stuck, turn it off, grab a spoon and push the frozen bits closer to the blade. I also shake my blender (with the lid on of course) while its on to help push it along. Once it's blended to a thick consistency, add in your extras - the fruit, or powder or whatever. Blend again until smooth.

And enjoy! Serves 2.

Even Matt loves it. And here is the strawberry version.

Happy "ice cream" making!
